10,000th Skyrim Mod Uploaded to Steam Workshop!
Join us in congratulating our newest Creation Kit group member, Joe Powell (nickname joedamarsio), author of the 10,000th mod to be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

His project, Shannara Weapon Set, is the 10,000th mod for Skyrim:

Can you tell us a little bit about your mod, Shannara Weapon Set and your experience making it?
Well, the mod is based on some of the weapons found in the Shannara Books series, I have been following the Creation kit wiki to help me, this is my first ever mod after all, and found it very helpful. I've had a bit of trouble placing the chest.

Wow, it was your very first mod, that's awesome! How did you get involved with the TES modding community, or what made you decide to try your hand at making your own mod?
I've owned Skyrim on PS3 since release and recently decided that I'd like to get into game design. So, when I got a new laptop I bought Skyrim in the summer sale on steam, played for a while and then started thinking of what I wanted to mod

What was the most challenging part about making your mod?
Probably placing the chest, as I said earlier I had trouble deciding where to put the chest, I'm still not entirerly happy with it

Was there anything surprising about learning to use the Creation Kit?
I was surprised at how, for the most part, the Wiki was very easy to understand and I could find the things I was looking for with minimal hassle

Did you use any other applications beside the Creation Kit to make your mod, such as Photoshop, Blender, Nifskope, etc.?
No

And you mentioned that you recently decided to explore a possible career in game design. Any thoughts about the kind of games you'd like to make, or a particular area of game design you plan to focus on?
In IT at school once we had to look up some jobs that used computers, I looked at Bethesda's website and looked at the qualifications they wanted and thought, hey I wouldn't mind doing that. As for the area, anything apart from art, I can't draw to save my life

What are some of your favorite mods by other mod authors?
I particularly like 'Moon Path to Elswyer', 'The Snake Pit', and 'LoTR weapons'

Are there any aspects you wish to study up on in the future in order to improve your skills for future mods?
For my next mod I'd quite like to try and make a house so I'd definatly have to brush up on item placement as anyone who has used this mod can clearly see

Ok, so imagine you have been modding for a year or more and learned everything you wish to learn about making mods and are now quite experienced. What would be your dream mod project?
Well, I have always played as a Wood Elf and have always wanted to visit Valenwood, I know there is a Valenwood mod in progress but I'd love to give it a go myself.

If you could add any new feature to the Creation Kit, what would it be?
I dont feel that I have been using the Ceation Kit long enough to suggest improvments to it. The one thing I would like is to maybe make it easier to find things in the lists, I spent most of this Mod trying to find Breezehome

What are some of your all time favorite games?
Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Battlefield 3 are my top 4

Any advice you would offer to anyone playing Skyrim who maybe thinks about trying to make a mod but is intimidated?
It's overwhelming when you first look at all the options on the Creation Kit but if you follow the Wiki it will talk you through everything and make modding a pleasurable and fun experience

Ok one final question: Dawnguard or Vampires?
Dawnguard.

You can see by looking at the Steam Workshop most recent files.

Well done, Joe! Come over to my house for a celebratory bottle of Cherry Coke to fuel us some mod ideas!

This would be a lot more meaningful if they interviewed one of the really good modders, not someone who happened to rename a few weapons at the right time.
