Q: Can we translate into a language that isn't listed on Translation Server?

You can create a Steam Community group and start translating any localization files from existing games (usually in the /resource folder). If your Community group gains enough traction there might be a possibility of supporting your language on Steam Translation.

It feels like I have an infected translation every 2nd or 3rd string.

Two years ago Torsten introduced the level system to us. Per month we are to level up twice.

48 levels is the maximum u can have so far and 10 translators managed or most likely will manage to get to it this month.

Doomsday Event? What is that?

The Doomsday Event or Holiday 2012 Event "hosted" by the Steam Translation Server was a similar event to the currently known Rallye. At the end it awarded the participants the Translator Badge and a secret reward.

I think we had that discussion already and I think it could be too much, since we have over 20 different countries, which means 20 "different" backgrounds. That's too much for a single project I'd say.

I noticed, which was actually obvious, that many of us translators bought GTA and are having fun (atleast I hope so).With even Torsten playing it, I thought we could create our crew, dedicated for sts.

If someone wants to be the "crew-leader" go on, otherwise I guess I have to create the crew.

But at first, I need to find out, if there is even interest in this.

I have like almost no idea when I started translating, but I think it was around the time when Dota 2 was in closed beta and there was a news on hlportal.de (dat advertisement) at the time, that made me getting interested in this stuff. So I guess around 2011-2012.

Selfish thoughts: I thought I would become someone epic, by "working" for valve. I wasn't really like, oh yeah I can improve my skills and all, but I evolved and actually am glad I stuck with STS, because it really helped improving my english skills, even though I think I am still not at my peak.

What kept me: I have no idea, obviously the events were one way to keep me here, because rewards, you know. I don't want to sugarcoat it. Another thing is the thought of my fellow germans actually reading something in german, that is translated by ME!!111! And as previously said, it improved my english skills.

What have I gained: Contacts with Valve (Torsten) which lead me to nothing so far, fellow translators and improved english skills. (It bears repeating)

Most of you probably know this problem: A new event is on the horizon and we get pre-event strings to translate and someone abuses their "power" being part of the STS to leak the new event.

One conclusion I always think of is an NDA (because I just cant think of any other solution except cutting us off from future pre-event translations)

Torsten doesn't seem to care much, when leaks happen, but I think the more it happens, the less we get involved in secrets and therefore can only do a partly good job.

Well this one was going to be prevented by the core group system, means no one under a certain level (example: lvl 12 were everyone gets his own translator badge) can get Esty.
