L4D1 Poll: Drains

I wanted to put together a poll for our group and get as many voices as possible before changing the way we play the L4D1 map Drains. The current NAS time 92:21.80 by abstract i, Nesisoth, ƝǿʈǿƦịǿus, and WussyPillow is a great time, they were unlucky to be quad capped; however, I don’t think they would care to try again since the map is such a drag, but I could be wrong. The map isn’t that much fun or challenging, and it isn’t even worth playing twice for most people. My friends and I have tried to find a solution and we came up with a few ideas which made the map flow in a more consistent manner when it comes to tanks and special infected.

As you can tell in the video ammo runs aren’t easy and the health supplies are pretty far; however, the tanks didn’t get stuck and all the special infected keep coming. I know survival is all about lasting as long as you can with the least resistance but drains might have to be where we draw that line. I would like to see the record for this map at least in our group counted differently. Meaning the record in NAS would be that 21:26:97 shown in the video, only to be challenged in a similar fashion with respectable counts. If you aren’t convinced please gather a team and try it out otherwise nothing will change.

I think it’s about time we put our microscope onto a Canadian, and that player would be mjhPark. He has made enormous improvements since I’ve met him, taking survival seriously and analyzing strategies currently played by some of our top players. He has shown what persistence can do and it has certainly paid off. I am proud to see him make his mark on NAS. He is the David in the group of known Goliaths in the Left 4 Dead 2 community. Congratulations to our new official record holders for Mall Atrium, and a beer toast to mjhPark for being part of this achievement!

Kev:
I was really surprised how interested mjhPark became with the way we do our Dead Center hold. He would watch replays to observe what we do to avoid damage or how we path tanks to make it as smooth as possible. He made a data sheet explaining everything depending on the situation and how it affected our outcome. I always loved the making or breaking of new strategies in survival, so it was nice to see his effort to examine ideas further than most would. I’m not sure if he wants to share them with the rest of NAS and that’s fine but I felt his hard work needed to be recognized regardless. mjhPark is definitely a strong L4D2 player and he’s only going to get better, thanks for the new time buddy and I hope your wife doesn’t mind you playing more often.

NAS is going through some changes to better the group. The admins and I are discussing promotions to loyal members to become officers or moderators. Those who play public survival games a lot and would like the power to invite others I can make you a moderator and include you in our group meetings. If you feel you have the time and motive to improve our community then send me or another admin a personal message to converse further.

You're upset there's competition? You don't deserve a record if you just beat someone's time, you have to beat it by enough that they can't or are unwilling to beat it. If they beat your time just after you get it, go play again, don't cry on here.

If you want recognition, let the admins and the community know who you are, people aren't going to seek you out to give you recognition, you have to earn it. The admins are pretty good at giving deserving people recognition if they're aware of their efforts (they are focused on l4d2 atm -hence you'll notice more l4d2 players receiving recognition lately).

These comment are a bit unexpected. When a new record is broken, expect a bit of competition from people who want to break it. For some of us, going for records keeps the game refreshing. There's been records broken before within same day when the competition level was high. There's no hard feelings behind it but we are a competitive group, so deal with it.

Personally, I could care less what the "Skyheart record" is. I play any map that my friends feel like playing and that's pretty much our policy.
