L4D2 Boycott
Creativity and Convergence
Convergence is the concept of things approaching one value. For example, airplanes, hand tools and the new Special Infected in L4D2.
The concept behind convergence is that similar problems require similar solutions; there are plenty of historical examples like those mentioned above, however it's as simple as this. Take a dozen people and one problem, wait a week and you;ll have at least 3 ideas that are extemely similar, some times so much so that they are indestinguishable from eachother. This happens more frequently when there is a limited variety of tools or materials to work with.
There has been a lot of commotion on the Steam Forums about how 'The Charger' was a stolen idea from a fan, and now a similar commotion is being raised about "The Spitter".
The first reaction of these folks, including myself, is to think 'Hey, they ripped me off". This is not really the case though.
In reality, when you come right down to it, it is far more likely that there were already similar ideas to this already floating around, these people just happended to be the only ones, or the first ones on that venue to post about it.
This is most likely the case for the new Special Infected in Left 4 Dead 2. Valve most likely foresaw similar solutions to the ones posted, probably before it was ever mentioned on the forums.
The big issue that most people have made is that these ideas were designed to fix problems in L4D, not to be used in L4D2. This is probably the most valid arguement, however with an announced DLC comming before the end of the summer it is not impossible that we will see some of these as DLC.
Thanks for your effort and continued support!

Anyone can guess about infected, plus if they didn't want Valve to get the ideas, why did they post it on the forum for them? I admit I had a similiar idea to the charger, I called it the "ram" but I'm not claiming I made it.
I agree with Sharptooth, porting any of the New SI's or Weapons (That we know will be in L4D2 already) provides the buyer with no incentive to purcahse their new title. Thus a win / win for the boycott.
Actually if they would add some good content to l4d1 like 1 new Special-Infected and new campaign I actually would consider buying L4D2
I can't wait to see their comments on this. If they port over the new SI to L4d1... wait.. is it possible to cancel pre-orders? Because thats what i see people doing should they port anything like weapons or new Si over. Why on earth would you pay for maps and Southern Survivors?
Of course, the irony is that this is exactly what we want them to do.

ill be fine if valve just gives l4d1 the new weapons and new special infected, thats all I need to have fun
@darkfox, look at tf2! thats content,. L4d1 doesnt need that uch,, maybe a acouple campaigns, weapons, infected, and then move on to l4d2
@Wallis what you just proved my point, all they have to say is what I said, and we got nothing... All I'm saying is that basically this entire group is going to be put down buy them saying that. As most of our principles rely on the fact they havent kept to their free content promise which technically they have given us.
Walking_target has a good point, But in case of the charger things are just to close. it *could* be just a coincidence. But its to close for me to accept a meer missunderstanding at the moment.
