Video-game Companies Get New Bosses

If your interest in video games extends beyond your television screen to the business side of the industry, then we have two new announcements that may pique your interest.

First up, Realtime Worlds, the developers of Crackdown, have named Gary Dale as the company’s new CEO. Gary Dale’s last job was as Chief Operating Officer at Take-Two, and before that he held the same position at Take Two’s subsidiary Rockstar Games. So we think it’s safe to say Dale knows what he’s doing. Realtime Worlds’ current project, and the first project Dale will be overseeing, is All Points Bulletin, an action based MMO in which players will take on the role of either a good guy or bad guy to wage gang warfare in the streets of a giant metropolis. Sounds good so far.

The second bit of news is that Chris Waldron has been named Vice President of gaming operations at Cartoon Network. Chris Waldron started working at Cartoon Network in 2000, overseeing the Web sites for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. Waldron was also the executive producer of FusionFall, an MMOG for kids that allows players to step into the shoes of their favorite Cartoon Network superheroes. His success and the success of the FusionFall landed Waldron his new position, and he will now be responsible for overseeing all of the production and strategy aspects for the game development side of Cartoon Network Digital.

We wish them both the best of luck—mainly because their success means more quality games for us to play.
