Start getting excited - the multiplayer VS mode is coming for Plague Inc: Evolved on the 1st December. I know lots of people have been waiting for this - I can't wait to be able to play it with everyone
Here is a quick bit of information about how it all works and some very cool new artwork:
In VS. mode - the world is unlucky enough to be infected by two deadly plagues who are battling for control of the world! Whoever infects the world first wins but they must also avoid being cured by humanity or prematurely eradicated by the other plague!
There are many ways to become the ultimate plague. Will you spread slowly, stay under the radar and let humanity and your enemy battle it out, or be aggressive, fight the cure and use total organ failure to gather huge amounts of DNA? Or maybe you should focus all your efforts hunting down the other plague in order to wipe it out before it can spread at all. The genetic strategies are endless!
Players get all new evolutions, abilities and genes to help them in their struggle for dominance as well as slowing their opponent. Single player was just the start of the outbreak:
Unscheduled flight sends a plane full of infected people to a far off country
Immune shock overloads the immune system of people infected with both diseases - rapidly killing millions
Genetic Exposure lets you help humans develop a cure against your opponent.
Good news everyone! Multiplayer is almost ready :).
Last week, we finished the 4th multiplayer beta test with over 500 people helping out - thanks to everyone who gave feedback. People are really enjoying it which is great to see - there are still a few technical issues that we are looking at but mainly we are focused on polish, gameplay balancing and lobby enhancements. I'm also adding in a new active ability called Benign Mimic which can be used to make your disease dormant in a country whilst also significantly increasing cure research against the other disease. This will help to counter a few particularly aggressive strategies that players have been using recently.
The plan is to start a public beta in the next week so keep an eye on the forums for more information if you are interested. After that, assuming things go smoothly - we are looking to formally release the multiplayer update to everyone in the next month. Will announce an actual date nearer the time.
The main focus is fully on multiplayer still but we have been also working on a tutorial and various other bits and pieces which will also be included when we release the multiplayer update. After that - the focus will be on Co-Op mode and final game polish to complete our early access plans so we can actually release the game! :)
Things have been rather busy but I'm pleased to let you know that we have just completed our first major multiplayer gameplay beta test - and it went great! :)
Over 150 people took part in this round of beta testing - all of the key gameplay elements were in game so people got to play *proper* Plague Inc. multiplayer for the first time. We got lots of useful feedback and everyone seemed to really enjoy playing (which was a relief!) :)
The beta also revealed a number of lobby / lag issues which we are currently working on fixing. Once these are sorted - we will be starting the next beta round with these fixes along with gameplay and balance enhancements.
This will hopefully start within the next week. People who applied to the beta originally - keep an eye on your emails
To everyone not in the beta - hang in there - you don't have long to wait now.
During July, we have been running various technical beta tests on the multiplayer. Thank you so much to all the testers who have been sharing their findings with us - the quality of responses has been brilliant.
The headline from the beta was that the multiplayer worked without any major technical problems - this was a big relief! :)
It also provided us with a lot of connectivity data and identified a number of lobby issues as well as some lag spikes for a few players. The lobby issues are now fixed and we are putting some time into optimising data-packets to deal with the lag - initial player reports suggest it is sorted!
Although the gameplay was heavily restricted to ensure focus on the connection - we also got a few interesting gameplay facts - the most popular country to start in was China and >30% of players went with a rather powerful Nausea, Sweating, Necrosis combo! Such tactics won't have quite the same impact once the rest of the gameplay is unlocked though :P
In August, we will be beginning proper gameplay testing and also expanding the number of players in the beta. Keep an eye out for emails in case you are selected!
Unrelated to multiplayer but in the next week - we are aiming to push out a minor update to the game which contains a number of bug fixes for single player as well as adding in Korean language support. We are also working on a tutorial to help new players begin to infect the world - more details to come on that shortly!
Well done to everyone who entered the Plague Inc: Evolved "Bugs and Insects" Custom scenario competition. It's been fantastic to see so many people getting involved in the community and making enormously creative scenarios.
We had over 130 submissions, and we have played them all, (lots of them multiple times). We've seen everything from Ancient Egyptian Scarab beetles to World Wide Computer Bugs to gruesome Human Centipedes! We were really impressed with the overall standard and with so many great entries, judging the competition has been really challenging!
Anyway, what you are really interested in, is who has won. We first narrowed it down to a "long list" of possible winners (honourable mentions) and then narrowed this down to the final shortlist (Runners up). Finally, we then deliberated for quite a while about who were the three prize winners. So here are the results:
1ST PRIZE ($100 Steam/Amazon voucher) - Anti-Plague - Necroa Virus BY ya.bym5
2ND PRIZE (Extra copy of Plague Inc: Evolved and Soundtrack) - Cyber Hive BY Si1entium
3RD PRIZE (Plague Inc: Evolved Soundtrack) - The Curse BY [SnS] Khemikal
Congratulations to our winners (we'll be emailing you shortly) and thanks very much to everyone that entered, there were many more great scenarios and you should all b proud of your creations. We will be featuring everyone mentioned above at some point over the next few months.
