For some reasons that are currently being fixed, some of you are unable to preload the game on Steam. Everything should be working fine by tonight and you will be able to preload the game as you usually do on Steam, but for the impatient crowd that do not want to wait those extra hours, here’s how to get it to start now:
1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Execute.
3. Enter the following command line: steam:\\preload\33310
4. Click on “OK”.
5. The game should start preloading.
Following the Public Beta, a few months ago, we received tons of feedback from beta-testers.
It’s been a huge satisfaction for us to know that many of you enjoyed the game basics and balance as well as the introduction of innovative features such as the zoom ability and the deception cards. Yet, it was also a big challenge because of the amount of requests and suggestions the team received. Thus, back in April, we took the hard but necessary decision to postpone the game to September in order to treat this worthy feedback and try to make the game meets the highest expectations of the R.U.S.E. supportive fan base.
Well… it’s been a while since then, and we’re now pleased to present you most of the final changes brought to the game in this video broadcast, featuring Mathieu Girard and Alexis Le Dressay, Senior Producer and Creative Director of the game. (The video is long – it explains what we’ve been working on during the past months – but you can directly jump to the part that interests you the most by using the buttons at the end of the introduction.)
If that wasn’t enough, we’re absolutely thrilled to let you guys know that you’ll be able to try these improvements during a 5 days Free Multiplayer Weekend starting July, 15th on Steam! You will be able to pre-download the game as soon as today, and more information will come regarding the content and game modes available, so keep an eye on my twitter (@UbiLeak) to get the info as soon as it pops out.
R.U.S.E. features multiple ways to select units. Nonetheless, during the beta, some players were unsatisfied and we have been aiming to improve.
The classical way to select multiple units is to do a rectangle selection. A lot of players complained about the difficulty they had with it in R.U.S.E.: it was sometimes very laggy depending on what was displayed on the screen and would drop the frame rate. This has been fixed and now drawing the rectangle is just as smooth as moving the mouse cursor. Moreover, the selection is now done when the button is released, there is no need to click a second time. We have also tweaked the way R.U.S.E. filters the groups of units inside the rectangle.
Furthermore, a unique feature in R.U.S.E. is the possibility to select very quickly a group of units within an area. The player simply needs to zoom out and select a pile of chips. During the beta, it could be difficult to pick up one specific unit within a group, so we've moved the unit icons to the bottom center of the screen and scaled them up.
Finally, the SHIFT + click combo was impractical to use. It was impossible for example to deselect a unit and sometimes very buggy. This has been fixed as well.
