Playing DD2 is just going to make people wanna play DD1.

@Tydo "True Survival" sounds like it would be fun. I'll let the Devs know. I've seen a good amount of posts saying the exact same thing as you, that once they beat campaign, survival made them play longer. Thanks for your suggestion. :)

DD2 without survival, i sure hope not. I got DD1 because it promised to be a fun hybrid and to get my first tower defense game. But after the campaign, it was survival that made me stay. 'Campaignmode' is just not doing it for me after tasting survival. And because every other tower defense game i tried compared miserably to DD.
If it was up to me there would also be a "true" survival mode, with no buildphase timeouts, just ever increasing mobspawns (think survival minus the buildphases), with pet being handed out at certain mobcounts. Only 1 big buildphase timer when you start and a large pile of mana to get started, then pure combat from then on. Call it endless mode.
You could go on counting waves and allow them as starting points and as an indicator of current enemy strength. Yes, without character switching once initial build is over, its not meant for the inexperienced, that is what regular survival is for :)

@Tydo I don't know if Survival is making a comeback. If it did, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't release it unless it was really balanced. I enjoy a good fight but sometimes it gets to the point where the enemy has too much HP for it to be fun. I'll be sure to pass on your concerns to the devs though. :)

thanks for replying.
I am thinking in terms of what happens in survival, as in, what currently happens in survival, specially on Nightmare.
Ogres become behemoths with mountains on HP. Example, near the end of aquanos NM survival they have 47+ million HP, and you are trying your best to make your 85% nerfed dps count.

Then my worry is of course that in DD2 that this will carry over, but with the added complexity of having to hit non-armored bits on such beefy targets.
Then getting the most of your dps suddenly matters a lot, until you are so geared that you can AFK it anyway due to defenses eating them up in any case.
But but but: you previously hinted that you want to make them a very real threat that we have to react actively to - so that brings me back to having to go a deal with them personally. I want to be sure that it will be reasonably possible.

This is looking awesome. Can't wait to see more.

@TyskeN - Thanks!
@flakker546 - We're aiming for a soft launch in spring of this year but for now you can leave a comment on the blog in our forums.
@Tydo - So far it doesn't feel like it's mandatory to aim. It's a nice touch, like a cherry on top, but the regular ranged combat still feels good without aiming. I've been able to take out enemies from across the map with my arrows and never once felt like I HAD to aim at a specific spot on enemies.
Tydo Feb 4, 2014 @ 12:19pm
I am concerned about ranged. If it becomes anything near 'mandatory' to aim perfectly, even assuming we retain the "red cross means it will connect" of DD1, then it is hello to aimbots and we don't want to go there.

Also concerned that ranged will be reduced to playing in really short range, in order to actually pull off those necessary headshots and whatnot, when projectile speed and mob movement makes leading a small weakspot a troublesome task.
And i suspect that model animation is going to more than significantly shift those spots as the mobs move. And the faster the animation the worse, naturally.
I have some modicum of UT99/UT2k3 skills to fall back on, but we wary of raising the skillbar too much.

As it is now, it is point and hose, good clean hosing the enemy with furious masses of damage, like with melee, ram and slash and show those punks who is boss. Dont spoil that if you can avoid it, its a nice relaxed combat style, i can get stressful shooter experiences elsewhere.

Hmm... I'm still skeptical about the "Well Paced Rewards" - even more as we don't know much about the F2P model intended... But it's looking better and better.

Maybe I'll jump into the badwagon again, and clock another +500h.
