I totally agree. I liked past installments thanks to story and gameplay
equally, and i think both of them are important (gameplay little more).

akana-may: just finished the game, I know this sounds whiny but I have even more issues with the story and gameplay now than the romance, but that is off topic so I'll post that to the forums.

About bland MCs for player projection, I don't want a bland MC to project onto, I want options, a good example would be Clannad, its a VN with a player project MC, but he is not bland, in Clannad, you could be a huge dick, you could also be Mr Niceguy, you get to choose, and I think that is very important and is a core part of any good VNs even if it is only an illusion of choice.

During the majority of the game, I feel out of control, gaming is an interactive media, I think removing control from the player is objectively bad.

And speaking of bland MCs, I honestly think Shields from liberation day is worse than Shields from MoA even after excluding romance stuff, he was a Reasonable Authority Figure with a Heart of Gold, but in liberation, he is literally playing the Blindsided Dumb MC trope.

I just wanted to say that I do play for the space battles, in combination with the story of course, but the combat is what hooked me on the Sunrider games. So personally I don't think any time spent on it was wasted time.

"-New scenes after the original ending" ...Hehehe. And after I just got through re-playing Moa to get the damned Wishall to see if it changes the ending anyway. Insert (Cosette's insane laughter here)

portalite: "Also, are eroge game communities always like this? Remind me to stay out of the genre."

There is eroge and eroge who actually doesnt need eroge content and sometimes even work better without it (honestly... I loved Fate/Stay Night but is there anyone who consider "replenishing of mana" good excusse for intimacy... and Samu-kun.... that "little sister fantasy in Homeward" mO_o;m ....) so there is good chance to find something you would like... and if you are not carefull also something which would make you consider washing your eyes with bleach...

Community? Dont ask me... I am not part of it, I just sometime play games in that category ;-p

thelegendaryblah: "We project ourselves onto the MC, but for us, going with (spoiler) is so out of character "

Its good that you speak for such players, but honestly trying to satisfy this demand is reason why so many VN main characters are "tasteless" (also unvoiced.. and we can go on...), because creators are afraid that giving them more personality would "brake" such projections.

Outcome is that many players who dont "project onto the MC" despise him as an boring weakling whose story is no funny to watch. Those players dont nead "blank" MC to project on to and they prefer MC with personality so they have reason to care about him, or atleast find him entertaining...

Basically... whatever creators do, they ***** someone. ;-)
