Tencent is not buying Rocket League, but they are responsible for publishing and localization in China. They are going to make a Free-to-play version with micro transactions, and of course, it's pay to win.

And we want to play a fair game, but there's no way to do it since it's no longer available on Steam.

Online was always unavailable for people playing in china without a vpn or proxy, servers are hosted by google, and google is blocked here.
So instead of hosting other servers for China, Psyonix decided to sell the rights (probably for hundred of millions) to Tencent which are know to have p2w games. Since Tencent has its own "gaming platform" like Steam, they probably forced psyonix to not sell this game on Steam for chinese IP anymore, to have more people join their Steam-like platform rather than joining Steam.
It's a big fuck you for the people in China since it forces us to use Tencent shit, plus it opens a big can of worms, since they succesfully pulled this one off with such a big game, what prevent them to slowly do the same shit with other games? slowly...slowly.... slowly until most of the games are unavailable for chinese IP on Steam but available on Tencent's platform.

So on behalf of the players from China, fuck you Psyonix
