The SteamVR Beta has been updated with the following change.

macOS:
  • fixes configuration paths preventing launch on a clean macOS install
  • allows system to enter sleep/suspend when VR is inactive, supporting reduced power consumption

I didn't even know SteamVR was compatible with macOS. That's neat to know. Now a Hackintosh build looks a little more viable.
