Can I ask how have you replaced DirectX? Are you guys using OpenGL now? If so, what are the minimum requirements now that there's no DirectX?

We've fixed the issues with AMD based Linux systems.
If anyone still has problems please report back here:

You did a great job with the Linux port! A few minor graphical bugs here and there, but that's expected such a short time after release, trest is flawless. Thanks :)

@vjaka - yeah, my solution was only for nvidia. But thanks for yours, i tried to see if it would run on an intel only laptop of mine, but i gave up and went back to the first laptop. I'll try your solution later

ty :)

@okster, your solution did not work, maybe because I have Intel video card. However, as suggested in forums, setting command line to :

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.0 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=400 %command%

resolved the problem

update to my previous post - after doing that it also works from steam menu after i put this into Tropico -> Properties -> Set Launch Options:

LD_PRELOAD="libpthread.so.0 libGL.so.1" __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 optirun -b primus %command%

which is pretty much my goto launch command for games that need to use my nvidia card

I was having the black screen problem too. This is on my laptop running mint 15 with nvidia optimus.

I got it to run from the command line like so:

cd $HOME/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Tropico\ 5
ln -s /home/oki/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/libSDL2-2.0.so.0 .
echo 245620 > steam_appid.txt (not sure if this is necessary)
optirun -b primus ./Tropico5 (if you have optimus otherwise just ./Tropico5)

got as far as the end of the first tutorial then stopped so i could write this :)

Does not work on Linux with my AMD CPU because of no SSSE3 support. Waiting for devs to address this.
