The reason it costs so much is because it's a Kickstarter thing. They offered the full game on release for normal, and the backers that paid extra would get to play in the beta. Selling access to the beta cheaper on Steam or giving it out for free would be ripping off the original backers. I'm not a fan of Steam's early access, but in this case it has nothing to do with this. This is all Kickstarter, and I support that 100%.

Remember when they released games for free to beta testers? I love where this game is heading and will definitely buy it when it's finished. But paying double the estimated selling price to beta test? What's amazing is that anyone is doing it...

...I guess since Steam started calling beta testing "early access" it's the thing to do???

"Hard to make a good game if they dont get money"

Err...so if I want to buy a car, I should PAY dollars for it first even before its tested?
Or if I wanted to buy Microsoft Office, Microsoft sells it at ALPHA phase of development so I can CURSE and SWEAR at it because they are not getting money to make it?

What kind of world do you people live in?

@Bernt i think the point of the early access is to get some money from the genuinely interested to help the progress along im pretty sure its not aimed at getting a big fan base that comes when they actually release.

Speaking as a person with a genuine interest in video games, but not much experience with this dev team, they're not really appealing to new customers with the insane price tag. People are literally paying double the price of the finished product's estimated cost to do the developers a favor of alpha/beta testing. I'm sure the loyal fanbase all bought into this, but you'd think expanding the fanbase would help hype the game and directly increase the profit.

This is like purchasing a new car for double the price, and you'll have to fit the interior and exhaust yourself.

@Algorithm
I got it when it was on sale, so far I've had 27 hours of gameplay from it. Theres enough to justify the price when it is on sale.
(that was from two "playthroughs" which didn't get to the limit in the current version, and were both sufficiently different to not feel samey)

@raysefo,
dude do you want the game doing a skyrim ?
being rushed into release and full of bugs

or
do you want a nicely complete bug free game ?

i for one would love a bug-less full flushed game
