Even though I am left out of the Beta for now, I've installed the client and got it up and running on Arch Linux 32 Bit. The first versions did not work here with MATE DE, but it does now, which is awesome, if only the software would let me try and use it. But great work so far.

Yeah, SDL_AUDIODRIVER as an argument to the game executable would be great.

PLEASE create a linux-based console, so we can sell our PS3 and XBoxes and play decent games on (more or less) open console.

Guys, please add keys LC_NUMERIC=POSIX SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa in a Steam launch. There are problems not only with tf2. For example look at count of game contribution.

I'm so glad things are progressing well.
I will stand at the bow, in all of my geekdom and glory, and defend Linux 'till nie on its dying days.
I refuse to pay $200 for an OS that's a massive usability downgrade from what I currently experience.

Is there any particular reason that updates for the /usr/bin/steam doesn't come by a package list, and gets updated by apt-get upgrade?

as an avid linux user and gamer who has been waiting patiently for decent gaming to come to linux i must say that i am seriously finding it hard to control my anticipation. I will make sure to send the therapy bills your way :)
