The mechanics of this game are engaging if you like older CRPGs. Aside from not auto-targeting a new enemy when one is defeated, combat is very smooth. I really liked that you can use a spell, skill, or item in the midst of battle without having to reassign your character to attack the enemy. Due to numerous skill trees, you can also develop your character however you choose, making the initial 6 choices more about aesthetic than anything else.

My favourite thing about this game is that most sidequests and dungeons encourage you to really observe and engage with the environment. You can press a button to highlight items to pick up, but unlike other CRPGs I've played recently, it doesn't highlight everything that you can interact with. On one hand this helps useless items be passed over so as to not clutter your inventory, but on the other hand things like levers and hidden doors can easily be overlooked too. That's where being observant comes in.

Unfortunately, the game does suffer somewhat from low quality localization (spelling, punctuation, and grammar, specifically). The story itself is fine, starting with a bit of a mystery surrounding who you are as the main character, and ending with some pretty epic scenarios and plot twists. If the writing was cleaned up a bit better during editing it would be a pleasure to read.

Also unfortunately, I did encounter some bugs in the game such as being teleported back to the entrance point of a map when clicking on a random pillar in a dungeon (probably a developer shortcut that was accidentally left in? who knows!) and some other minor issues, but nothing that truly detracted from the overall experience.

If I were to grade this game I'd probably give it a C. Hard to recommend it, but if you're looking for an open world game with a lot of stuff to do, and aren't too nitpicky about writing quality, it might be up your alley. It isn't too expensive and is definitely worth the price, especially if you get it during a Steam Sale.

This game is really fun! Just be sure you run it in compatibility mode for XP
