Coop and survival horror doesn't really go well together, in fact there are none of those games what I know. Any scare factor is pretty much removed when both of you are shooting what ever is in front of you.

well what im thinkin of as a horror (maybe amnesia is a bit too high for what im thinking) is like the fear of running out of ammo and the fear of seeing this certain monster or zombie because they have a kevlar vest or something i basicly want a dayz without the complete multiplayer and add that u can make a base and have the wasteland feeling

I don't know of any games like that besides possibly DayZ, Killing Floor is another Survival Co Op Horror Game, although truth be told it's not really that scary. It has RPG elements to level up and such, but other than that, no clue mate, sorry

If you really want crap your pants moments play Dark Souls lol. It's also co-op, in a way.

DayZ fits your description. It is a mod for ARMA. Check it out, you'll soon be crapping it with the best of us and wondering who you can or can't trust!
Good luck with it.

Dead Island isn't bad for a co-op survival horror game, if you've not tried that one before

Dayz is a terrible example. It's basically a half COD half simulation on a big map. The zombies are not even close to scary, they are mostly a push over. How to beat zombies? Go to a building with stairs and hope you don't get sniped by other people. The most scariest thing in DayZ are the bandits.

Dead Island is as close as you're gonna get to coop horror, until someone like Bethesda makes a real horror survival game.

Because if any company knows coop and horror games, it's Bethesda...

No but they do not how to make an open world game. They are just a few steps away from making a horror survival masterpiece. Just convert all the mobs in Skyrim to grotesque monsters and they are almost there already. Now they just need to import some Far Cry 3 survival and they have a game.

Bethesda is already making an MMO, coop would just be less work.

Who else can make a survival horror game that isn't some rubbish puzzle game? Oh right, no one.
I take that back, maybe Techland and Valve can pull it off, assuming Valve can turn source in to an open world engine.

There's a half-life 2 mod called BlackSnow CoOp. :) I'm going to try that game with my girlfriend. I don't think there's an RPG part though. However it is horror, and it is CoOp. Just my 2 cents :)

DayZ is the best example for what he's asked for. The zombies themselves aren't the scary part about DayZ, if you had ever played that you would've known that. The scary part is when you've got great gear and you know that one mistake could make you lose it all, or when you come across another player and not knowing whether he will help you and attempt to murder you for whatever you're holding.

The OP isn't just asking for open world, he's asking for a co op survival horror rpg, the only thing Bethesda take from that is rpg. Even if your convert all the mobs to monsters, it's not survival because of how strong you are and the environment don't look scary at all. Betheda have never made a horror game nor do I think they could pull it off. Betheda is making an online MMO which is very different to what the OP has asked for, nor would it be easy to make said game just because they're making that. I think you're best bet would be Frictional Games if they ever grow in size or Valve since they already make the Left 4 Dead series. Who knows, maybe with the Source Engine 2 they will.
