Hey if anyone out there is looking to design another free game, and wants to use one of the best engines then check this out. They say that you can use CryENGINE 3 for free as long as you are using it for a free game, and not making any money off it.

Well i think most engines are like these...
I mean Source is if i am not wrong..
And it think also UDK

As Black Blade said, most engines are free for non-commercial or educational use.

Unity's business model is a bit different, there is Unity and Unity Pro versions, Unity is free but with features cut out. As awesome Source, UDK and CryEngine is, Unity is probably better for anyone interested in trying out game development.
