I enjoyed Fallou 3 much more and you can install a lot of nice MODS for fallout 3 too if you like.

New Vegas is closer to a mix between the original fallouts and Borderlands (which has been inspired by these older fallouts) while Fallout 3 is more like "Oblivion with guns". See which is going to please you most :)

I disagree, fallout new vegas it's all about politics and strays very far from the "lone wanderer" concept of fallouts original theme.

From what i can tell most people would say new vegas as technically it made advances over fo3 but fallout3 is still my fav. :D

FO3 can have problems with windows 7. I prefer falliut 3 tbh over new vegas.

Fallout 3 is mostly about mutants and 2 armies fighting each other. It's cool and interesting, however the game kinda got old now.

New Vegas isn't stray or something, it's still the same concept, you are alone. I could say, you can take companions both in Fallout 3 and NV and your "lone wanderer" concept would fall. The real concept of Fallout is surviving in a world always at war in a post-apocalyptic environment. That's all.
New Vegas feels better because you do have MORE choices on the main quest, same thing for the DLCs (but some to a lesser extent). Textures are better, models too. The factions are interesting when you really look at it, even if they didn't do something as interesting as the Stormcloaks vs Imperials. Here it's clearly the "good guys" vs the bad guys... or you against the world.
Characters in New Vegas are also more interesting, Benny, Caesar and many more. I don't remember getting interested by any character in FO3 except the father.
Finally, with the DLCs you get different environments and that's interesting.

At any rate, you should take both. They're good games.

New Vegas, for the freedom of choices you can do it, much better than Fallout 3.

New Vegas is one of the best games I've ever played.

Fallout New Vegas, people are just flat out wrong to say Fallout 3.

Opinions can't be wrong, genius.

I'd also pick Fallout 3 for the story and the location.

It isn't an opinion, it is a fact. Fallout 3 pooped all over Fallout lore.

No, that's your opinion. If you can't tell the difference, please refer to a dictionary. Telling people they are wrong for picking Fallout 3 makes you look like a fool..
