Steam crashes when I try to install a game
I purchased Cities In Motion 2, and now cannot install it. Steam crashes 2 seconds after clicking "Install". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as removing everything but SteamApps and userdate from the Application Support folder. Steam is still crashing. Help?

I have the same problem but after I reinstalled it worked, have you ever downloaded any other games from steam?

Ditto, getting SIGBUS when I try to install anything. Haven't yet tried to reinstall the Steam client.

Nothing works. Reinstalled, installed again, reinstalled. Same thing )8
Does Steam for Mac work at all?

Seems to crash whenever the application tries to access the filesystem.

It also is crashing for me when trying to set an external screenshots folder or edit the library folders

Steam -> Preferences -> In-Game tab -> Select External Screenshots Folder button
or
Steam -> Preferences -> Downloads tab -> Steam Library Folders button

Does that also trigger a crash for other people?

Having a similar issue. It's been a week or two since my last logon, but it worked just fine then. Today I try to install a new game and the steam client just hangs during installation, then eventually tells me that I'm not connected to the internet even though I am. I even see that there is a steam update but it can't even download that! How does it go from working one week and not the next? My friend on a PC is having no issues whatsoever, so is this a Mac thing?

I had a similar problem.

I narrowed down the problem to iTunes (11.0.2). I disabled "Open at Login" for iTunes, and (after a reboot) I am able to install games in Steam. However, if I open iTunes, I'm unable to install games in Steam in that log-in session, even after I quit iTunes.

I tried killing the iTunes and iTunes Helper processes in the Activity Monitor, but I'm still unable to install games. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this problem.

Hope this helps!

Post the crash report.

Well I'm not sure if iTunes had anything to do with my issue, granted I didn't have iTunes running while trying to run Steam but if there were some iTunes processes going on I have no idea. My issue got so bad that Steam wouldn't even load cause it was trying to download an update. After a few minutes of trying it just popped a window saying that it needs to be connected to the internet (and of course it was), and then it would quit.

I tried to uninstall Steam and reinstall it and that worked just fine for me and I am back up and running. Instructions to Uninstall and Reinstall Steam for Mac can be found on the website and they even tell you how to save your game data if that is something you are worried about. I would suggest any one still having having this problem to just do a simple reinstall. Good luck!

I have followed the iTunes instructions, and have reinstalled Steam several times. Sadly in my case these steps have not resolved my issue. Still waiting for contact from Steam, too.

Steam is unresponsive and they seem to be full of bad communicators. I'm having similar issues (stuck on "Checking for available updates...") and the answer to my trouble ticket was to suggest that I run a microsoft report. In other words, it was an automated response that didn't even look at the top of the trouble ticket to see that I was running OSX.
Is there any way to get through to this game-monopolizing company besides trouble tickets? Anyone have a good contact in the gaming industry to get info into the press about this? Know the guys at Penny Arcade or something? This is absurd. The least they could do is issue a statement saying that they know the problem exists and are working on it.

Try posting the issue on their GitHub page.
