Steam Wont Open

So I haven't been able to open steam even in offline mode in my new apartment. I used to be able to access it but for some reason I cannot anymore. A window pops up that says:

"Could not connect to Steam network. This could be due to a problem with your Internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info."

I have a macbook pro running 10.7.5. I can access Steam from my old house but not the new apartment. I checked my firewall and it is setup to allow Steam through.
