P. S. S. I'm surprised you were able to get Mavericks running on yours.
Honestly, I mostly* just browse the store for games that sort of look interesting, and then check youtube for any Let's Plays people have done. If the game looks like fun, I buy it. I'd suggest doing similar. check the steam store for anything that looks even a little interesting, and then check youtube to see what you think of the actual gameplay.
* Not counting humble bumdles

Im a professional graphic designer, hence why i have a mac, i dont see the need to buy another computer just so i can play a few games when i get bored
