Main Menu on Source games

This is an issue I've had since updating my mac to OSX Lion (10.9.0). Every time I try to play a Source game I get stuck at the main menu. The game isn't frozen as far as i can tell, as i can still switch back to steam and exit out of the game. I have tried to play Counter-Strike: Source, Garry's Mod, and Team Fortress 2, all have the same issue. I have yet to try and play Portal 2 since updating, so I'm unsure if that game will have the same issue. I am sure that the issue is with Source games as I can play other games through steam, i.e. Kerbal Space Program and Guns of Icarus Online. i notice that every time I try to play one of these Source games however, that it informs me that to access the in game Steam overlay i need to enable Steam in Universal Access in my system preferences. I have yet to do that but if someone had a similar issue and solved it please help me. Thank you.
