And while I find it difficult to even imagine why someone would use SteamOS on a box just to save a few bucks, and in turn have limited support for games and a multitude of problems, I find it even more difficult to imagine why anyone would buy an already overpriced Mac to install SteamOS on it...
I think it's pretty obvious that the OP will already have a Mac to install Steam OS on and doesn't want to buy a new, separate machine just for Steam OS.
As a MAC uses the same hardware as a "PC" anyways, you should be able to use SteamOS as the only OS on there.
If you're not already sure what stores local to you will sell you a copy of Windows 8, I suggest amazon.com although someone might know of a better deal.
Personally, I actually just use Crossover. You can get it here[www.steamgifts.com] for less than 9 bucks for the next few days. It works on quite a lot of windows games, but not everything.
