CS:S Dedicated Server: Update Failure
Hi Folks,

So I'm not sure whether I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, or what. I'm trying to update my CS:S DS and having a hell of a time doing it. I'm using SteamCMD with anonymous login, I have the proper server app_id (232330), I use command app_update 232330 validate and get this output:

Steam>app_update 232330 validate

It appears to download something, but it doesn't update succesfully and the CS:S server still reports as being out of date. Any help would be the appreciate...ever since this new SteamCMD nonsense, I dread CS:S updates.

Hey folks - so running command prompt in Administrator mode seems to have fixed the above issue and the update now completes and tells me all is well. However, when I try to run the server, it insists it's out of date. I'm about to say screw it and just wipe the whole folder and be done with it....but I'm hoping someone in the community knows how to deal with this madness. Help??

Well, I may not be an expert on CS:S Servers, as I mess with TF2 Servers, but I can assure you that the proccess is the same. Whenever you see that the server is out of date, just go to steamCMD and follow the same process that you would when you installed the server in the first place. When SteamCMD detects that you have already gotten the files in that directory, then it will just provide the neccessary updates.

If you are still confused, I have a tutorial series on this forum on how to create a TF2 Server, but just follow the First 3 videos, as those mainly mess with the SteamCMD and updating (as well as auto-scripting!).

Well, I hope that helps, just make sure your force_install_dir is the same as the server you are trying to update.

Thanks for the feedback but I've already done that - steamCMD insists the install is up to date, and when the server starts - it says it is not. I can use steamCMD just fine.

Alright, I just mentioned the check because maybe you have 2 servers on your computer you don't know about, so maybe you can search for "srcds.exe" on your entire computer?

Don't know, just throwing out ideas.

Did it work?

No - the advice was not very helpful as that deals with the setup and the standard update process, which as I tried to explain I understand just fine. I'm also pretty aware of what goes on with my server - not that much of a software dumbass. The issue was a non-standard error with the udpate that I ended up resolving by wiping the whole server and re-starting from scratch.
