Why does EVERYONE play CoD? (Warning: Rant)

99% of the 1000+ people at my school own a console/PC that can play games, and pretty much anyone who has a console just so happens to have at least ONE version of CoD. What I don't get is, why does everyone play it? I've played Black Ops on my friend's XBox, and frankly it's overrated. Either Activision was paying IGN under the table to talk good about it (almost like the Zoe Quinn thing going on right now), or gamers' tastes are really going down hill.

The other day, I was at EB Games, and there was a little boy (couldn't be older than 10) looking at games with his father. The little boy insisted on wanting to get CoD: Black Co cks 2, but ultimately his father had to keep telling him that he wasn't allowed to get that game for him due to the rating (R18+) and told him to grab something different like FIFA or Skylanders or something like that. Ultimately, after some heavy arguing, the kid finally burst into tears, saying something about how all of his friends have it on their XBoxes and his dad had to escort him out of the store.

A week after this event, I was talking with a 'friend' (if that's what you wanna call him) about what his favourite games are. Of course, he's what you call a so-called 'mainstream gamer' (plays only modern online FPS and car racing games with 'GOOD GRAPHICS', as that is all his narrow minded brain will allow him to enjoy) . I asked him why he thought this, simply replying with that the graphics are amazing and that it's the best game ever. Personally, it sounds a lot like bulls hit to me, so I suggested a couple of games for him if the FPS shooter category (BioShock, Half-Life 2, TF2, Borderlands, etc.) but he turned down every single one purely because 'the graphics are ♥♥♥♥' or 'this game is for kids'.

The point is, it's games like CoD that are driving gamers as a community away from one another. Overhyped, annually released pieces of garbage that are used purely as cash cows. If you added up the total cost all the DLC for BO2, it would three times the amount of the actual game. Yet, somehow people are still drawn to buy it every year, despite Activision wanting nothing but cash.

You don't understand. CoD fans are the worst. I just don't the appeal in a game series like this one. All they care about is scoring 360-no-scopes and how good the graphics look.

That father is suchhhh a meany poo!!! All the kewl kids are playing that game. It's easy enough to get kills and appear awesome, plus if that fails cheat!

If your friends have it, then you must have it to play with them, then your friends friends.

Run around, none stop action of killing or being killed over and over appeals to a range of people.

Older pedo guys troll the little kids who in turn get attention since their parents ignore them and purchase the game as a cheap baby sister. All ends well.
