xbox controller being goofy
my xbox controller has been acting strange lately. every once in a while, it won't stop vibrating and it doesn't reconnect to my pc if I replug it. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but it's stil acting strange. Can anyone confirm this isn't a software issue before I buy a new controller?

Do u not have any other controller to try out and see if does the same thing?
If not perhaps try the controller on a different system.

No extra/special software should be needed on systems running Vista or later for Xbox360 Wired/Wireless Controllers.

I have had odd occurence from time to time where controller was vibrating just as a game crashed, and only way to make it stop was restart the system, or unplug the controller. But no reason it shouldn't be picked by up automatically again by Windows once it's plugged back in. Try waiting around 5-10 secs in between device plugging in/out. Or try a different port.

If it does the same thing on a different system, then I would suspect a faulty controller, in which u should be able to call Microsoft Hardware Tech Support and have them replace it under warranty.

I tried connecting it to my xbox and it worked fine, but my pc doesn't recognize it. I tried different usb ports but that didn't do anything :/

Try disconnecting all other USB devices.

Do you have a specific win/xbox driver installed for it, or just the windows auto detect one?

Do you have UPnP disabled?

Does it happen in all games?

Have you checked or cleared the keybindings in-game?

If it's a wireless controller pull the batteries out for a moment.

I dunno, maybe use ccleaner to sweep the registry out.

In Device Manager do you have any conflicts /!\ ?

Can do it through right-click in Device Manager.

I don't even see a driver for an xbox controller in my device manager.
the program from that link didn't do anything unfortunately :/

If it's not under 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers', it could be under 'Human Interface Device' and there may be more than 1 instance of it.

nope, nothing xbox controller related :/ That link you gave me doesn't seem to install the controller driver, only a tool for the controller.
