CPU voltage resets itself to default, if I cut the power-off. Detailed info in description.

I changed my old Z68MA-G43 motherboard to Maximus V Extreme (just for aesthetics) just a month ago. I need an overclock for CPU intensive games like Shogun 2, Civilization V etc.

I can get stable overclock on my i7 2600K @ 4.5 Ghz on 1.355 voltage. Everything is normal until this part:

If I shut down my computer; everything is normal, but if I pull out power cables from extension socket ( while computer turned off) or if I get power outage; overclock voltage goes back to 1.320.

The problem is;

- It shows 1.355 voltage under voltage setting screen (after pulling out power cables), but CPU-ID, HWInfo64 and Bios monitor shows 1.320 voltage. It doesn't even reach 1.325 voltage and it dips to 1.280. And I'll get BSOD errors.

- (In normal condition) CPU voltage doesn't go below 1.360 during small FFT/Torture Test for 24 hours/idle on desktop. HWinfo, CPU-Z, Asus Voltage Monitor shows voltage values between 1.360 - 1.368.

- I can't set it back to normal values like 1.355 voltage without using CLR CMOS button. ( I can set CPU frequencies and other stuff, but I can't set voltage. It will show 1.355 and bios will save it, but it just doesn't affect on voltage. Only CLR CMOS solves this problem.)

- Power outage causes same problem. I think it might be a problem with motherboard's battery, but it only resets voltage.

System details;

- i7 2600K
- Maximus V Extreme (latest bios)
- GTX 780Ti
- Vngnc 1600 mhz 8GB
- Windows 8.1 x64
- HX 850 PSU

It doesn't works like that, because I disabled all of the power saving options + switched everything to max-performance. I think lack of description on my part caused some misunderstanding.

During full usage; my voltage switches between 1.360 and 1.368. I checked it during SmallFFT/Torture test for 24 hours. Also, it is fixed voltage; it doesn't go under 1.360, even if I am idle on desktop.

1.320 means instant BSOD with Whea_Uncorrectable_Error.

Yep, it is enabled and it is in Ultra High mode. With Ultra LLC turned on; 1.360/1.368 voltage is normal condition, but if I lose power completely; it goes back to 1.320/1.328.

Everything is fine for a normal shutdowns. If I lose power somehow (power outage/removing cable from extension socket); only CPU voltage gets back to factory default status.

I don't have many of those voltage options, I've different motherboard than that.

Internal PLL Overvoltage: Enabled
LLC: Ultra High
CPU Manual Voltage: 1.355
CPU Current Capability %140
CPU Fixed Frequency: Auto

CPU C1E, EIST, C3, C6, Package support are disabled. My other settings are same with these screenshots.

My mobo is Maximus V Extreme, but BIOS looks same.

When the cables are pulled the system probably reads the value from the cpu, but user adjustable values tend to be in fixed increments.

So you can't always set the exact value but you can set an upper limit.

Problem is; it never reaches upper limit after power outage. It only stays between 1.320 - 1.328(LLC Ultra High), 1.280 - 1.328 (LLC normal). Without a CLR CMOS; it is impossible to set voltage back to it's working condition. It should stay between 1.360 - 1.368.

It is the latest one. V1903.
I have feeling that you're dealing with a motherboard/BIOS issue. You are probably trying to save a BIOS config that isn't being recognized as legit when the BIOS boots cold.

make sure you got the correct bios for the board, or worst case, rma it
