Heat
So I got a new mobo with cpu. An Asus M5A97 R2.0 with a FX8350 on it. With on top of that not a stock cooler but the Scythe Big Shuriken 2. And nothing is overclocked. And i was playing BF4 the other day when i suddenly crashed(BF4.exe has stopped working). Since i was worried i didnt put the heat paste on it properly i went to check the sensor(that came with the asus driver cd) and it says that my cpu was on 70C. Is this normal, might this has caused the crash? My cpu was pretty much the only thing with a high temp. my mobo was on 30-35 and my gpu was about 70. After BF4 closed the temp of the cpu went down to 45 really quickly and hasnt dropped since even when idle.
(I also live in the netherlands so its pretty cold outside and the heating isnt on)
When i play other games the temp is varies from 45-60. Its just BF4 thats really making it hot.
The performance also doesnt seem to be affected.

It also crashes alot. Mid-game my screen goes red and then my pc just restarts.

Some awnsers would be great,
Thanks

check with hwmonitor
run prime95 for about 5-10min

if the core temps are farther than 2-3c apart redo the tim

what do you exactly mean with core temp 2-3c apart?
and what is tim :P?

hwmonitor
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
can check the temps for each core

under load (prime95)
http://mersenneforum.org/gimps/p95v279.win64.zip
run the blend test for around 10-15min
and watch hwmonitor

if the cores temps go more than 2c apart ex
core 1 = 50c
core 2 = 55c
core 3 = 51c
core 4 = 60c
10c spread

turn the pc off and take off the cpu cooler and reapply the tim(thermal interface material)

or something like that instead of
core 1 = 50c
core 2 = 51c
core 3 = 49c
core 4 = 51c
2c spread

I cant see the seperate temps for the cores anywhere.
Btw, i went to take a little look inside the case, i noticed some paste coming down the side of the cpu i guess i gotta go take off the cooler anyway? and if i do that can i just remove some of the paste or do i have to remove it all, and with what?
Remove it all and replace it.

You only need a small amount of paste, about the size of a pea. There are plenty of guides around if you're unsure of how to use it correctly.

I guess ill do that. Bur with what do i remove the paste?
You can remove the bulk of it with dry tissue paper, cotton balls or just a clean dry kitchen towel and if you really want that squeaky clean feeling then also use Ethanol or some other solvent.

Ok thanks ill reapply it. im just wondering, when i put on the heatsink again, can i like lift it up real quick to see if it spread good or does that ♥♥♥♥ it up?
When you pull away the heatsink you will separate the paste, leaving some on the CPU and some on the heat sink. When you place the heatsink back you will trap some air in the paste reducing it’s efficiency. This may or may not have a noticeable impact on your temperatures during real world use.

Place the paste in whichever way you prefer, place the heatsink on to your CPU and then bolt it down. Check your cables are connected properly, check your air flow and then you should be good to go.

what gpu do you have? screen going red might be that your gpu is dying.
i would bet though that you have a fresh lot of thermal paste and its just setting at the moment which is why you have high temps.
it should show a list like this

It's also not that good of a cooler, 58c is higher than the stock pos amd cooler, my my PII 1.45v 3.7ghz only hits 42c max in the winter with a tuniq tower 120 which is a little worse than a cm212 evo.

You might get the temps down a bit but that cooler isn't intended for that type of cpu really.

I dont have that, it only shows "Package" under "AMD FX-8350".

I have a Club3D AMD RadeonHD 7970 RoyalKing 4GB
And it hits 70C when playing bf4. And yes the thermal paste was on there for a week or so.

I just replaced the paste and im getting 36C when idle. Gonna play BF4 now and ill let you know if it crashes and/or gets hot.

most gpus are good to around 90-100c
amd cpus max around 62-72c

id just redo the thermal paste
take off the cpu cooler, use a soft rag with iso 90+% iso alcahol to clean off the cpu and bottom of the cooler
apply a rice to 1/2 pea sized dot in the center of the cpu and install the heatsink, the heatsinks will spread the tim

70C is fine. It'll be Brokenfield 4 which causes the crash.
