New PSU
Hey guys, so recently I got a gtx 970 4gb and it works fine and I can run gta v on ultra 60fps same with fallout 4, but I think my PSU isn't powerful enough as after roughly 5 minutes my screen goes black and my monitor just says 'no signal', my psu's maximum voltage is 220w I think, would I need a new one and what one should I get?

voltage has nothing to do with a power supply wattage

what brand/model power supply is it?

You definitely need a new one. What is your computer though? Can it accomodate a regular power supply or is it an Alienware X51 with the external power brick?

If it's a regular computer I would go with this one:

or this one:

it could be 2 things, as you said PSU problem the card draws 145W and the minimum system requirement is 500W.

If your PSU allows for this type of power then it could be that you have inadequate cooling, the card is throttling then shutting itself down to prevent thermal damage.

So, check your PSU is good enough and connected properly, if it is, it rules out power, then check the temps in your computer, and make sure your case is cooled properly and has good airflow (e.g. 2 fans blowing air in, 2 fans blowing air out)

if it is the x51 and you have the 220w power brick you are limited to a 50w gpu
if you get the 330w power brick you can run a 150w gpu (gtx970 is 145w)

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

check temps while gaming
use hwmonitor, it logs min/max temps
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
alt+tab takes long enough for the cpu/gpu to drop 20+c

Voltage has everything to do with the wattage output of a PSU.

OP from what i can see, even though your PSU is labelled 600W it looks to be only a 200W in reality.
Could you post the numbers on the +12v part of the sticker please?

If it is 200W then you will need a new PSU asap.

Its a 230W PSU mate, i'm surprised it could power your system frankly.
Its almost deceptive marketing the way the model appears to show it as being 600 watts, when in fact this isn't the case.
You will need a new one, i recommend you get something 600W(really 600W!) or greater to give you room for future expansion.
