Steam needs to mix!
For those who don't know there is a very frustrating problem with Steam and The Sims. For some reason, Steam will not let you use retail expansion packs on the Steam base game. This is absolutely ridiculous! Steam needs to cooperate with other companies, so that they can mix games.

Ah, the choice to allow them to work or not would not be up to Valve. It the publishers that set those rules.

Although this is true for many games, in regards to The Sims 3, this is a bad example because you can use a retail expansion on the Steam version. As the expansion is registered through thesims3.com and your account there, just point the installation at the Steam folder. It won't register on Steam, of course, but you can still run the expansion. Alternately, everything registered at thesims3.com will appear in Origin.

What ever happened to the Add non-steam game to my library option under games tab? Isn't this supposed to allow us to do this? Or is this only for full games and not addons or DLCs?

Ask EA to allow that stuff on Steam.

Yes. This only works for standalone games as they're just launched.
