Here's a suggestion.....Fix your ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very tired of error code 118 and everytime a update happens I can't log in for an hour...Here's another idea,how about allowing ne to play my games that I paid for without having to use your ♥♥♥♥ servers..........

Error code 118 errors are usually because your hosts file or DNS has been hijacked.

The servers are fine, it's your system that's likley faulty

I run virus and malware scans everyweek and it never finds anything...

Do you have a netgear router? If so your router may be detecting Steam doing a DOS attack on you for some inexplicable reason. Turn of DOS protection and see if that helps.

No its a cisco router..I just used microsoft's host file fix it program and did a DNS test which reported "Pass"...Steam works 75% of time with errpr 118 only lasting a few minutes but the restart after an update is what is really pissing me off..Its a hour or so to connect to the network

Regardless it's likely your router is causing the issue. see if there is a DOS protection on your cisco router and disable it.

I haven't had this issue in a while but I'm enrolled into Steam Client Beta. Maybe they fixed it?

I have this issue every other day even loading steam from firefox won't load but other websites work just fine .... so I chalking this up as a steam issue and not something on my end

I went through about a fortnight of getting this error.. Couldn't access pages in steam at all. Sometimes not even being able to load up steam client. I had no idea what was causing the problem, well, I did have a vague idea...

Anyway, it seems fine now.

Funny, it was the same idea as Satoru's OP

I've had this problem and ever since I disable the DOS and SCAN protection on my router I do not experience error 118 anymore. It's possible that the feature is not called DOS and scan protection on your router. Refer to your router manual and find anything resembling DOS protection and disable it.

I looked no dos or ddos protection,dns is disabled. No virus,malware,spyware,download and uploads speeds are good,did a host file fix. I have no idea whats causing it.

Hard reset your router

If you're getting it in a browser as well again you're talking about a sytsemic issue either on the router, firewall or your network connection
