what I do if I want to play a steam game AND download one is run the game. Alt+Tab, go to steam downoads and click on pause then on resume then Alt+Tab back to game. you are now playing AND downloading at the same time.

sorry i looked at his question first

Well I'll be IT WORKS! I will say (and correct me if I'm wrong) that in Steam's earlier days this trick didn't work. Not sure why Steam takes it on its' behalf to manage your bandwidth for you but I'd rather pause any downloads myself if 'ah choose.

GOOD FOR YOU

Because download and installing in the same dir you are running a game from could cause data corruption!

This is why it's not standard... Yet!

TY I was wondering how to do that
Kargor Aug 22, 2013 @ 4:00pm
Yeah, they really should add that simple checkbox to not suspend downloads while playing. I never play multiplayer, so I couldn't care less about a heavy download coming in while I play...

And if they want to be "really nice", they could add a tristate setting to the game properties as well -- "as default", "allow downloads", "disallow downloads". That way, if I got into multiplayer on some game, I could selectively disable downloads just when playing that particular game.

Yes, I hereby petition for the inclusion of an "enable in-game downloads" option. For those concerned about downloading to the same directory being played from, a simple script could check to see if the two locations match and disable the feature! This is 2013 after al!
