Darksiders cutscenes black on top half of screen
Suddenly today when I tried to play Darksiders 1, the cutscenes were all cut on the top half of the screen. The actual gameplay is unaffected, but it would be nice to see the cut scenes.
Any idea what is going on? Seems to be the only game that is doing it. Already tried reverting my graphics card driver, that didn't do anything to help.

Same problem here. Maybe the Windows updates?

EDIT: Ok, here's the solution: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3147850

I don't see an option to turn off anti aliasing, just vsinc.

The above solution, deleting the windows update, solved it for me.

Deleting that particular Windows Update works perfectly, no need to do anything with AA

its windows update KB2803821, you remove that and it should be ok

I removed the file yesterday and the cutscenes worked. Today, they're cut in half again and the file is not back... Anyone else experiencing this?

For me, my windows updates were set to install automatically, so when I uninstalled it, it would come back again before too long. So, I guess set your Windows update to not automatically install updates.

Does anyone know if uninstalling the update has any other adverse side effects? Surely it wasn't an update just to break cutscenes in certain games, so what else am I deleting to fix this?

Looks like it's a patch to prevent remote code execution in Windows Media Player 12. So, some slight risk there if you use WMP 12 and run stuff you get from untrustworthy sites.

I'm willing to risk it, but that's a decision you'll have to make for yourself, of course.

Removing the update worked, thank you.

You don't have to actually disable automatic updates to keep this removed.
1. Remove the update
2. Check for updates
3. This update will appear in the list of available updates
4. Right click on this update and choose "Hide"
Other updates can then remain automatic but this one won't be re-installed.
