Steam won't start

Steam was working for me this morning then a windows update or something restarted my computer.

Now whenever I click on steam nothing happens, or launch from anywhere else on the computer. I tried deleting the clientregistry.blob, repairing steam, disabling anti-virus and using system restore to a previous date. I have no idea what to do and any help would be much appreciated.

do you see steam.exe in your task manager?

Only when I first click it, then it disappears and I briefly see steamerrorreport in it. Click on either brings nothing up.

well, hate to sound like Steam Support I hate, but can yo try to remove everything except for depotcache, steamapps folders and steam.exe and then start exe once again? Sometimes this DOES help... Though not all the time. If it still won't start - good luck convincing Steam Support, that this is not a Windows issue...

The STEAM upgrade will not restart the computer, no matter what version.Is not the computer system reinstall, did not install the graphics card driver or C + + new version, or Net Frame 3.5?

He did not say that it was steam update. It was WIndows update...

my steam is down too, or rather, it works on my laptop, but not on my gaming computer, tried to delete everything, do a fresh install, it still gets stuck at either "connectiong" or nothing just happens at all...

yeah... you should raise ticket to Steam Support and somehow convince them, that this is not your Windows issue. Because in the eyes of Steam Support their application is perfect and does not have any issues at all...

I tried deleting the stuff like you said Simbiat but still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas? I want to be able to use my steam.

I have a similar problem..after upgrade steam not start CS and CS CZ!

Same problem. Since Steam update, can't open steam, I have a running process but nothing happens and no application.

Now I have almost the same issue: it hangs on "validating installation" and I see that erroreport process appears for a short period of time. Their software becomes impossible to use...

...same thing here. I had a steam update and it restarted. Then steam wouldn't open when I double clicked on the windows icon. I went to task manager and saw a steam process on there so I ended it. Now it opens fine.

Same thing here guys running Windows XP...Has anyone tried doing a sys restore to a previous date to see if that works? I'll give that a try tonight.

One other note, I've notices a message pops up in the Task bar just for a second that says
#NOBIGPICTURE....maybe that's a clue for Steam support. Has anyone else noticed this?
