Steam and Windows 8
I have used Steam for a few years, but recently upgraded to Windows 8.

The issue I have is that when I launch a game it flicks to full screen in black and immediately minimises to the task bar. I have 12 games in the library and they all do the same. The only one that is slightly different is Battlefield Bad company 2 which launches to a small window but will not respond to the mouse clicks.

I have the latest graphic card software, it seems to make no difference, I also did a clean install yesterday of Windows 8 it has made no difference. I have attached my PC spec's below but if you need any other details please let me know.

I appreciate any help I can get? I am rather confused.

did you install DirectX9?
KillerKoala78 7. mars 2013 kl. 12.21
You don't need to install DirectX9 on Windows 8.

It's possible you have a program installed that interferes with Steam.

Windows 8 doesn't come with DirectX9 installed. You need to install it if you want to play DirectX9 games.

DirectX 10.1 includes DX 9.0c. You can't install DX9 because windoes won't let you downgrade DirectX.

that is not true

Yes. it is.

I have Windows 8 with DX11.1. I never had to install DX9 to get any game to work. DirectX won't let you install a lesser version of DX over a newer version.

Then you did something wrong.

Enough though. This isn't helping the OP. I will not continue aiding in your mis-informaton.

OP,

Have you tried verifying the game cache? Is windows fully updated? Did you try to repair the Steam installation?

There is a list from Steam on what you can do. Did you try them?

What specific games are they?

I run Avast free alongside Windows own firewall, It was not an issue on Windows 7, but I will try it.

That doesn't help your point at all. You should actually read what you copy before pasting it in. You don't ever need to install DirectX 9 on Windows 8 as it's built-in.

Hi,
I have freshly updated Windows 8 and I have installed all the updates and the latest drivers for my Graphics card. I installed the client before and after the refresh and reinstalled all the games. It made no difference.
My games are;
Batman Arkham Asylum,
Battlefield Bad Company 2,
Call of Duty MW 2,
3 Company of Heroes games,
Darksiders,
Frontlines fuel of War
Saints Row 3
Metro 2033
Red Faction Armageddon.
Some of them I bought recently on a humble Bundle but I played them all on Windows 7, I am not sure how to verify the game cache but I will have a look.
