Invalid Steam ID Error killed entire mod community -- again
The usual fixes aren't working. You try to join a server and you get this:

Disconnect: Invalid Steam UserID ticket

I've tried deleting everything in my steam folder except for steam.exe and steamapps and then starting steam and letting it redownload, reauthenticate computer. It doesn't work!

The particular HL2 mod it's happening in is Resistance and Liberation and it has completely destroyed all game activity since around Monday. This has happened 3-4 times over the years and it devastates the mod communities when people can't play for weeks at a time. Please fix in a timely manner!

I understand it's also affecting mods such as Battlegrounds 2

Indeed Battlegound 2 is dead. It is sad that commercial buissness are killing small community of free games as bg2. Every day with this Invalid User ticket ID make the community shrank.

Pirates, Vikings and Knights II servers have the same issue. For some reason my own server works without problems. Bit weird really.

This is pretty annoying. I lost my job Monday and I've been unable to play any games that I want to ever since. Valve continues to get low marks for it's customer support from me. This isn't even the first time this has happened. In the last five years I've gone from vehemently supporting staying with Valve to eagerly supporting a switch to an entirely new game engine. All I hear from other modders is that Valve doesn't care about the modding community anymore and stuff like this puts an exclamation point on it. A week of down time??? Seriously?? This royally screws over the mods, many of which already struggle. Imagine all the new players being lost coming into the game this week and there's zero freaking players on. D-

Its pretty clear what there up to. Upgrade to the new 2013 multiplayer by destroying small community's in sdk 2007.Or force us to buy rather than be free. This issue came up in 2012 but there was a quick fix. Now we got to be at there mercy for a fix or at least a explanation. Im betting it also has to do with the so called heartbeat. Eitherway its JUST WRONG..
This is the equivalent of having a bug that bans every single player from every single server. What a joke. Steam comes across as such a steaming pile of crap when this happens and don't think there aren't thousands of people who notice this BS.

Yeah, this is a major bummer. Some of us did pay for HL2 for these Mods.

We found a workaround for server admins until Valve fixes the issue:

Note: This fix is for Windows servers only. No idea if something similar works on Linux.

1. Use steamcmd to install SDK Base 2007. It won't work with the old HLDSUpdateTool.
2. Download the Steam client on the server machine and run it until you get to the login screen. You don't need to log in with an account, just leave Steam running at that screen.
3. Start your dedicated server

The server should work like usually now. Hopefully Valve fixes this soon.

I think your tinfoil hat is on a little too tight.

Have they even said anything about the issue?
