Steam gift cards
I know in Canada you can purchase Steam gift cards, but I want to use it on the Steam market, but I'm wondering what the rates would be? Remember this is a card from Steam not a Visa/Master or anything
Would it work or no?

when u use a steam cgift card, it just transfers the money into yr steam wallet, just like creditcards.

Yes, it should work.

What I mean is like will there be a conversion rate or will it just be like 1 usd=1 cad?

yes, steam uses international conversion rates.

so if u bought a card that is 20$ (americcan) and u use it on a account that is set to Canadian, then it wouls be converted through the current exchange rate.

How would I set my account to a Canadian currency?

From what I know, Game Stop (EB Games In Canada) has been charging 10% for the US Steam Wallet Cards. So you'll pay 22 Canadian for the 20 USD card. 55 for the 50.

This caused a bit of a stir and outrage a while back.

It might have changed, cause the last time I bothered reading about it was at least a few months ago.

@tirith all game/gifht cards u have to pay a tax on. (material tax for the physical card), he meant converstion rates such as 1 us dollar = 1.08-1.09 Canadian dollars

@JayZ what ever the card is will be converted to yr steam account currency

Well, not in the US. Gift cards are tax free, because you pay any applicable taxes upon use of the gift card. If you paid taxes when purchasing the card, you would effectively be double taxed, paying the same tax twice, for the same purchase, which is usually frowned upon.

And from what I had read in the complaints, it was the same in Canada, and the 10% charge was a relatively recent thing... At the time it first started appearing in the complaints, it was roughly when the US economy first started recovering, and the 1 USD = 1.10 Canadian after being nearly identical for a period of time, and the additional 10% being charged for the gift cards at EB Games seemed a bit too coincidental.

I'm not too sure, but I would love a high ranked official or someone close to that, to reply

I read the same thing in the few topics that kept popping up. That the 10% was something new and unwanted by the customers. Causing outrage from them.

I'm not too sure, but would love a official to confirm. I don't want to waste 170 dollars for nothing

How would you be wasting 170 dollars? Do you plan on buying 1700 dollars worth of gift cards?

I would be using 170 dollars on a item on CS:GO for a friend (item is like 168 dollars) and if there is a conversion thing, then it would be pointless as my friend won't pay me back and I don't need any skins or anything.
