Privateer
what's the closest new game to Privateer? I'm looking for a trading, battle, etc. kind of game.

Or you could just hunt down the somewhat new re-released GOLD edition of privateer. (http://privateer.en.softonic.com/) I had some problems with it due to not knowing anthing about the game and playing it cold. I probably also needed a joystick because keyboard and mouse just weren't cutting it.
Also for a non-privateer game thats like Privateer (but without all the religious babble and curses), try Drift: When worlds Collide from Cosmi (http://www.amazon.com/COSMI-Drift-Worlds-Collide-Windows-Pc/dp/B00008HBX7).

On second thought Privateer is based on the Wing Commander universe. Try looking for those games too.
