ORIGIN vs STEAM- The Sims 3 Supernatural
I have contacted EA and this is what they said:

you: I don't know if you know the answer to this or not, but I am wondering if you bought the Sims 3 expansions and the origional game on Steam if we can use them on Origin since EA won't let Steam sell Sims 3 Supernatural
you: if you don't know, can you direct me to someone who does?
Andrew: Unfortunately, if you bought all the games on Steam, you're not able to claim them in Origin.
you: I don't understand- that's not fair to people. If we knew this we never would have bought through Steam
Andrew: And if you were to buy the Supernatural expansion on Origin, it wouldn't work with the games on Steam.
Andrew: I'm sorry for the frustration, and I can definitely pass along the feedback, but unfortunately, that's how it operates as of now.
you: Please give them the suggestion: people who went through Steam and bought all the games really should be given a deal through Origin to join them. It only makes sense. There are TONS of people complaining
you: People will probably join Origin, but not if they have to pay for ALL thei games all over again
Andrew: Very understandable. I will most certainly pass that along for you. And again, I'm SO sorry for the frustration.
you: I appreciate your help...its just unfortunate that EA would do this to so many loyal customers.
Andrew: I will make sure that the dissatisfaction is made known. :(
Andrew: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
you: That's it. Thank you. take care.

Guess I got lucky because I was able to activate all my EA games that I got though Steam with Origin. That is Burnout Paradise Crysis Crysis Warhead, Darkspore, Dead Space, Dragon Age Ultimate Edition, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, Need For Speed Undercover, The Sims 3 with World Adventures Abitions Late Night High-End Lot Stuf Fast Lane Stuff and Outdoor Living Stuff. Every one of them I was able to activate with the key though Origin with no problems nor did I have to contact EA support to do it.

Not true. I bought all my Sims 3 expansions on Steam, but I can re-download them on Origin.

If you have registered all your games through the Sims 3 website, try downloading Origin and see if they appear there to be downloaded.

Edit: But I did this a long time ago when I heard of the Dragon Age 2 troubles. But, there is always a chance they "forgot" to close up a hole.

Let's not forget to blame Steam for not being able to negotiate a deal with EA to protect the customers.

I bought the Sims 3 on Steam, and I expect them to ensure that I will always get the option to add expansions despite their conflict with EA.
They can sell up to Showtime ever since Dragon Age 2 got pulled from Steam, so Steam can work a deal with EA. But they don't want to, Supernatural won't be on Steam, and now people are stuck with what Steam offers and cannot continue the expansions.

I was able to activate my Sims 3 game plus expantions using the Key that Steam issues to you. You just have to redeem it on Origin's Activation page.

I do agree that this war between Steam and Origin has gotten bad. The thing EA does not seem to care about is that it hurts their customers more than anyone else.

The person you apparently got for support told you two outright lies. First ALL valid serial keys for EA products 2010 or sooner will activate on Origin (and if your e-mail address is the same for your Origin account as your Sims 3 account, it should already be there.)

Second, The Sims 3 add-ons are managed through your Sims 3 account. It doesn't care where you buy the bloody thing, if you stick the Supernatural download from Origin in your Steam folder for The Sims 3, it will work. I've done it myself.

How can Steam make a deal with EA? EA wants to sell items on their own platform and Steam is direct compatition, EA doesn't *want* to allow Steam to sell certain things. No deal can be made when EA wants their sales to come through Origin.

It was handling of in-game DLC that broke the camels back, with Steam requiring a cut of every micro-transaction. Aside from F2P games, I believe this requirement may have relaxed given that you can often now purchase DLC elsewhere that can activate on Steam, but the damage was already done.

...and, by and large, EA sells their games, even the new ones, just about everywhere except for Steam. Whereas Valve requires digital consumers to ONLY purchase it through Steam. Why do you think that is?
