Adding a non-Steam game - Tab-Shift doesn't work

I've added a non-Steam game (D3) to my favorites - hit play - game opens up properly, but Tab-Shift does not open the Steam overlay when I'm in the game. Am I doing something wrong?

Some non-Steam games don't support the overlay. However, I have got the overlay to work with Diablo 3. The issue is that the launcher and the game are separate things so the launcher must be bypassed.

First, make sure that the game is up to date by launching it outside of Steam. Then, right click Diablo 3 in your Steam library and select properties. Then go to the TARGET line, move the cursor to the end after the " and add -launch with a space before the -.

It should look like this:

"E:\Diablo 3\Diablo III\Diablo III.exe" -launch

With the only thing different being how and where you have it installed.
