Install from disc\Download...
Hi all. I'm a new member of the Steam community

I purchased a copy of CS:S for Gmod content, and I would like to know if source engine games (disc) include all files to play.

I understand updating, but I cannot afford to download the entire game, although I have installed (I think) Counter Strike: Source
Day of Defeat: Source
and HL2:Deathmatch

Checking the 'steamapps' reveals what I would think to be compressed game files, but I seem to still automatically download the entire game.

Is there a way around this?

Given the game has had LOTS of patches... and due to the way its written, if an update is make to DOD:S, TF2 or CS:S it gets another patch... you will never find a disk with all the content on it.

You would need to download something, but it wouldn't be the 'entire' game. If you know someone that has it, they can copy their CS:S folder and give it to you which would let you have the most up to date copy.
