Public Local Multiplayer Tournaments
Hey all -

Steam is, in general, for non-commercial, private use. The exception is "Cybercafes" and beyond that, nothing else.

Is there an in-between situation for local multiplayer games?

For instance, if I was to use my laptop for local multiplayer games at a bar, would that be all right within the EULA, as I paid for the games and I'm participating in the event? What if I was to have a tournament - does it matter?

I assume that charging for game sessions is outside of the EULA, but what if I have specific written permission from the game creator?

Please help me understand - thanks!

Ah, no. The Steam license you have is PURELY for non-commercial, private use - no exceptions. If you want to have a LAN party with your friends who also own the game on Steam, that's no problem. Hosting a tournament in a bar and charging for it? Nope.
