While at first glance it may look like a blood-soaked, swear filled brofest, Bulletstorm takes that image and turns it on its head. You play as Grayson Hunt, an assassin turned space pirate, as he hunts down the Confederate general who used and manipulated him. After an explosive intro you and your crew are stranded on a hostile planet that was once a great tropical resort, and you realize the general is the only way off of this desolate rock filled to the brim with mutants and psychopaths.
-Extremely visceral, brutal, and fun combat
-Plot and character development are top notch
-You can steer sniper rifle bullets
-Weapons have tangible upgrades, feel powerful, and have useful secondary fire modes
-Beautifully designed visuals still hold up after 3+ years
-The game rewards you for killing in brutal and creative ways with currency, which you can use to purchase ammo and upgrades for your guns
-Excellent banter between characters, it's witty and smart about 80% of the time
-Jennifer Hale (of FemShep fame) has a starring role
-In one chapter you control a giant robot godzilla-esque monster that shoots lasers from its eyes
-The game is the perfect length and doesn't overstay its welcome
-20% of the aforementioned banter is just crude jokes
-So many swear words, wouldn't be a big deal for me, but it just becomes excessive at times
-It's minor but occasionally you'll get caught on the environment in a firefight and die
-Compared to all the other characters the antagonist is flat and has no development at all, but he's easy to hate and that gives you the drive to hunt him down
I truly and wholly had a ton of fun with this game, and the sequel-fueling ending made me truly excited. However, it's been 3 years and I have no idea if a sequel has been announced or not, but I really, really want to see one.
SHOULD YOU BUY:
Definitely. Pay full price, buy it on sale, get it as a gift, whatever. Just play it.
