Pure, unadulterated crap.
I only have ~16 hours on Steam, but I have 8 level 60 characters, I've been playing on and off since release. This game is nothing more than a cashgrab, thinly veiled as a video game set in a popular universe. Advancement is largely hidden behind a paywall, or an extreme grind in order to acquire enough dilithium to trade for Zen (leaving you crippled and unable to do things in game that require dilithium, like upgrades.) Bugs have remained in the game for years (the Borg Invasion zone on Defera is a bugfest), yet like clockwork a new lockbox is released that requires more money/grinding followed by another set of ships that can only be purchased with money/grinding.
If you want to play a game with huge latency issues, random disconnects from the server with undecipherable error messages, and a complete lack of support, then Star Trek Online is the perfect game for you. If you want to play something fun or exciting, look elsewhere. Most of the time I spent playing STO I wondered if I was actually playing Starship Troopers Online, because the only challenge in the game is dealing with so many, overwhelming bugs.
