endgame and pvp
Before i begin i realy dont want this to be seen as another qq thread it ISNT! but simply a question with the aknollagement that i may be doing it wrong (and i hope that i am)

My problem like the title says is with the PVP at lvl 50, this is something i have tried time and again to get into but dispite my gear, tactics, use of buffs, defenses, etc i just dont seem to make a dent while other ships just oblitorate me in a single phaser shot without even adjusting course and this is reflected in the score bored at the end where i and 1 or 2 others wont even have a percent of the other player's damage. I want to know why this is, Obviousely my weapons/consoles etc are max level(mostly), im burning through my CDs as and when i need them and im stacking all my damage and devensive buffs on the common target but what makes me so weak?

Normally i think well Pay2win but i dont see anything in the store that effects gameplay, what i have seen is some crazy abilitys being used like black holes being made but i dont seem to be allowed to use mine, is that a subsciber only thing like the top tier ships and if so why am i allowed to PVP with lower free2play gear effectively hamstringing a potentially sibscribing team?

Or is there specific PVP venders that give gear that carries expertise like swtor/GW?

There is soo much in this game that is totally unexplained and unclear it boggles the mind but no one will talk in gen chat when asked except You need practice, well im very practiced getting my ♥♥♥ smacked out of BGs backwards before i can even hit a single ability, i am well versed in unloading endless weapon fire using all my buffs and and not making a scatch, so unless there is something others know that i dont and is not on the UI, i think im practiced enough here.

Anyone wanna take a guess as to why i and others like me come into pvp and just waste space?

STO has always been a PVE oriented game.

Three things off the top of my head that may be causing noticable differences:

Specialized Doffs
-This is probably the most 'pay2win' aspect of the game. Certain builds(Aux2Bat, etc.) require specific duty officers that have unique effects(most of the valuable ones come from lockboxes).

Weapon Modifiers
-ACCuracy is paramount for PVP because of all the Defence Value people stack between gear and movement/engine power.

Watching Your Opponent's Buffs
-Trick your opponent into wasting their defensive buffs and exploit them when they run out. This is how they're exploiting you(r moments of vulnerability). Don't spam your abilities, use them as they're needed.

Otherwise, it's hard to really say without seeing exactly what you're running. While a lot of performance comes down to actually understanding the mechanics of the game, there are a lot of traps players fall into that the game just doesn't really teach you about it(firing cycles and the impact of different weapons on your powergrid, resistance versus capacity versus sustainability, etc.).

This is a game that takes many months to fully figure out.. and even then tinkering can still lead to new and unexpected surprises(a lot of science stuff is starting to make a resurgence again after a long drought).

wait more powerfull builds come from lockboxes? so this game IS a pay2win? wow and i actually liked star trek, "liked" now being the opperative word, so the game doesnt have PVP gear which is seperate from PVE? like swtor/GW/WOW does? why does it have PVP at all? and isnt klingon side 99% pvp? this is mind boggling what your telling me, a faction based end game MMO that designes itself so one side is PVP specific does not add pvp gear but does ad PVE gear that takes years to get (fleet gear) and is also a pay2win? somewhere in the fiction world captian pichard just broke his palm on his face

You don't need lockboxes for a good build. But there are some nice stuff inside a box.

Pay2win is more with real money but you dont need real money for all the stuff or zen vessels.

A good point are Fleet equipments. There are very useful for PvP. Join a fleet play missions and buy the stuff.

Inside my fleet we made PvP events, so we can see how good a build is and maybe chance something.

You can build a good vessel with your reputation sets or weapons. The only things you need are marks (STF), dil(STF, daily's) and ec for stuff (replicator).

Another point are the doffs. You can buy all you need from the excange or doff missions.

The last point are the boffs and skills. I see many people who dont know the right skills and dont use the potential of the vessel.

I fly my self a vessel with fleet and reputation equipment. The rest is normal stuff and it work.

What Ice K said about fleet equipment is what I think is going on. Not only that, you may be playing against pre-builds in PvP where they all have fleet gear on their ships. Yeah the lock box stuff is good but it is not the end all winner that gives you the uber edge.

That all being said, I have not PvPed in a looooong time and from what I have gathered on the forums, PvP is not in its best state right now. I really hope that Cryptic will eventually spend some time on fixing the problems as I really did have some fun with PvP when I was in it and one of these days I would like to get back into it.

Yes i have some fleet weapons and this is the biggest flaw for any avid PVPer, thoise pistols i got from my old fleet took weeks of grind i dread to immagine how long decking a starship out in that gear would taker and thats assuming the first build works, swtor it takes me a weekend for my full pvp set that beats players in PVE gear that takes months thanks to the PVP stat they carry and the same is true of WOW, guild wars, so on and without this system there is noi point in having PvP. why cant cryptic get over their free2play model and follow thew winning formular? GG STO maybe youl be the galaxies to a real MMO thats worthy of the star trek name some day soon
