STO has one of the best F2P buisness models you are likly to encounter. Choosing not to pay will not lock you out of any content or features, or prevent you from obtaining anything. Every perk given to those who pay can be purchased by tradng in game currency. It has its faults. It isnt ballenced, but it also isnt pay to win.

It dosnt feel like other MMOs, so if you enjoy massivly multiplayer games but have gotten bored of the old formulas it might be worth a try.

The character editor provides a huge range of options to customize your aperance and that of your officers. You can also customize the aperance of many ships to a fair extent.

STO does not reward min/maxing as greatly as many other MMOs if you like to generalize you wont be penalized for doing so. Although cryptic promote the three class types as healer/tank/dps this is only slightly true in ground combat, and in space it isnt true at all.

STO does provide you with eough equipment and ability options that by choosing the wrong combiation you can make the game a lot harder for yourself, but once you gain some understanding of how differant abilities and items can complement each other you can also make the game a lot easyer for yourself.

While PVP can seem a little like pay to win when you first try it, it is in fact learn to win or L2W. Knowing which combination of abilities to use with which ships, with which equipment and then knowing how to watch your oponents buffs and utilize your ship makes it stupidly easy to beat inexperianced PVPers.

-Not every perk, some veteran rewards are only for subbers / lifetimers like a lvl 50 ship token, and the 1k extra dill refine ( every 2 days tho )! and respec tokens! Best to check the matrix overiew on the main site on the differences!!-

- once again, all 3 classe have there OWN skill tree ( 1 class specific, 2 are shared ), altho u dont need to min/max, there is a diference when flying a science captain in a science ship. Or a Tactical captain in a science ship. -

- fair warning tho, depending on your faction, it might take a while before u get in a pvp match!

other than that im a lifetimer, and i like the game. Used to love it, but its getting a little grindy in the end. But with friends its a blast to play, and u forget about it easly.

Well am currently downloading this game because i loved the last two Star Trek movies.I have never watched either the older movies or the tv show so i hope i won't be too lost in the story and lore of Star Trek. Also i wanted to try out a good sci fi mmo game and i have heard much good about this one so you should also give it a try.

It's Star Trek! Downloaded it and fly around! Don't set foot on ground! There! hahaha

I'll play for awhile, then I'm done for a few months. Some how, I end up coming back. I mean, where else can I get a star trek fix flying around going phew phew?
Star Fleet Command is too old and I no longer have the cd for any of them. So STO here I come....AGAIN!
