Stupidity: 10 GB download?!
4.7 GB download and after installation it wants to patch / download 5.5 GB? Kidding, developers? All together more than 10 GB because STO developers are too lazy to put up the latest download on the Steam servers?

Blame Perfect World / Cryptic they may be trying to push their own game client 'Arc" and as a result give minimal service to steam. I'm not sure if it is lazyness or business driven, you should ask.

Blame no one it is standard issue for an MMO. Steam can't possibly keep up with all the hot fixes and patches, its more efficent, and less of a pain in the ass for steam for them to do the bulk of ptaches through the ingame client. Its not a simple multiplayer or single player game its an MMO, it gets changes like crazy has its own servers, steam doens't offer MMO servers to clients, and has to worry about balance and bugs.

It just makes so much more since to do it this way. In fact it makes them the oposite of lazy, a lazy devoloper would let steam do it, and just not give a crap about patching on the fly or doing their own browsers. Although it does make you a little lazy to want steam to go the extra mile for you, that kind of service would require paying Steam even more, and make prices skyrocket. Steam isn't a benovalnt company they do help people cut down distruption, and help sales, but that is it, they expect returns and % of sales done through their browser and system.

This isn't facebook, the apple store, or the xbox store, it is steam they provide bandwith to distrubute what you would normaly get from a cd, and do patches for games that don't need their own servers. This has its own servers, the patches are done on their end and your end, steam simply provdes you the latest digital version of the cd you use to buy, heck they just give you the same up to date installer as the company websites do in MMO's case, you simply use their bandwith and do sales through their browser getting them a cut.

This is normal for most games on steam, u download the game client and after that it will update. ( this counts for all games that use a launcher!! )

Every MMO on steam does this, some only download a 5mb file and you then download everything through the patcher.

If you download the STO Launcher without using Steam, its just the same, so don't blame the Devs for just putting Half the game onto Steam.

I played STO last year, so I know about the silly patching solution. I can "understand" it when it comes to small patches (small = some hundred MB).

But I meant that they could at least put up a more recent release here on Steam. 4.7 GB Steam download .. OK.. but then again 5 GB "patch" through the Launcher? Looks to me that the 4.7 GB on Steam were for nothing.

All no problem if third party developers would integrate some pause and resume. I am not downloading 4.9 GB to find out that the download has been cancelled by the slow "Perfect"world servers ;)
guys the guy who started this is right though the patch is ridiculously big and we wouldnt mind doing it every now then for a new big patch .0 version once month maybe but STO has started to crash on me alot yday 8 times! and ive been forced to check integrity of cache 3 times each time its redownloading the same crap! i just downloaded wtf not just 100mb or 1gb no the whole lot again and again because WHY? sigh vented

STO is a solid 19Gigs. Steam only has the base installation. Its been like that since it was put on Steam.

What are u using for your checking intergertay of the game files? Please tell me your NOT using steam for it...

Steam only gives BASE installes for ANY AND EVERY mmo it has. So deal with it.

i used steam and the STO options verify from STOs main menu options. and it IS a STO Server problem as noted by 100s of subscribers also on STO forums. it seems the servers cannot hold all the global players now and over the last year

Highly doubt that, i can get in the game when ever i feel like it, unless there is downtime lol. Also steam ♥♥♥♥♥ up the game, it puts it back to basic without the update. and what has the global players to do with patch problems??? thats not even part of the topic!!
chebonaparte 💜 Sep 10, 2013 @ 12:12pm
well go and look then if you doubt it! you admit to "downtime" but you fail to understand or read properly. global player as in everybody online internationaly duh and there are errors caused by the patching. you will have the same problem sooner or later like hundreds of others then youl understand
Wobby Sep 10, 2013 @ 12:13pm
I just logged in to the game about hour ago, there might be problems, but there definitly that big that every one has a problem with it. But once again your going off topic! Make a new one if u want to complain about that.
