Half time quitters
gets very frustrating when people play STF's (elite) and then decide it's too hard and quit, I understand people need to learn but isn't that what normal play is all about, would be better if time penelty was longer, like 3 hrs and penalty only is applied too the first 2 people who leave the battle first. I know this is old news and been mentioned many times before, but thinking cryptic could make it that each character must complete 5 battles of an stf in normal mode before being allowed to advance to elite, least that way they would know what they are up against, and certain stratagies that can help achieve a solid win with objective competed.

Theres 2 sides of that coin:

If you enforce that someone has to do 5 runs of a normal STF first, thats leads to a good and a bad thing.

The good: People at least have an idea of what the STF is about.

The bad: People who have multiple characters will moan because they can handle elite because they know what they are doing (generally). They would complain that they have to do normal first, even though they can handle elite with Mk X equipment, because they have done them to death. Normal isn't even worth their time.

Personally, I would still support your idea, if it were to achieve less leavers and noobs in elite. But this would have to be an account wide thing. One character does enough normals = all the others can do what they want. But I kinda doubt thats what it would be like.

No way, the only people who quit STF's are experienced players and the STF's are in no way hard for them, the only reason that they quit is due to inexperienced players not willing listen to basic instructions from more exerienced players trying to teach them. What is it about the 10% rule on conduit that you do not understand. The only STF that I regularly play anymore is khittomer, even if they screw up the probes, you can still get a decent reward from defeating the scimitar. Cure is not even an option anymore for random teams.

I am all for helping new players to the game and have often given items/EC/ships/advice to new players. However what I will not do is waste my limited downtime on STF's where players have not done their research or are not willing to listen to simple instruction. I work hard in real life and I do not get much time to myself to spend in STO so if someone screws up conduit early then i'm out of there.

Pefect World may need to spend less time designing new ships to leach our zen and more time expanding the ingame instructions for STF's or even provide STF tutorials for the new players.

This is rarely an issue when you fly with all fleet mates. PUGs are a gamble, especially at Elite difficulty.

thanks for your replies,

Xeno, yes i would agree that an account wide rule would be better suited than each character much better.

Darthudd you comment is what i am referring to, most of the time the poeple who leave are expeinced players, but from my expierience they don't offer the noobs help and advice they just abuse the player and then they just leave if objective isn't reached which in my eyes is a half time quitter (great that you aren't one of the abusive ones and at least try to help and advise newer players). A noob that doesn't listen, like you drives me mad but i look at it in the way that ok, i need too cover that player as if he wasn't even there, infected can be saved easily if someone stuffs up the 10% rule. I understand tht people get limited game time and want to make the most of time online but by quitting you're wasting time anyway, if you fail objective but still put in a cracking game you will get very good rewards as well as your dil and marks.

Ab'minded agree totally when play with fleet mates and in our fleet in each member comments section we all add advice on little rules in the game such as the 10% rule so people are aware on how we play

It's good that you can see both sides d.jamo, STO needs more players like you.
I hate how often the word noob is used in games like these, everyone needs time to learn, however elite stf's are not great class rooms.

With regards to account wide penalties I do not think that would not work, as what if two or three players leave and there are two players left, if those two players can not finish the stf then they are forced to have an account wide penalty just for accepting the inevitable for deciding to quit.

thank you Darthudd for you kind words and i couldn't agree more regarding noob used so often in context and stf elite is not the place to learn.

With the penalty i think only the first 2 players that leave first in a team should be penalized and the remaining 3 receive no penalty at all as they have been left in a difficult situation and therefore unfair for them to receive this penaly.

I took note of your comment regarding tutorials for stf, i think this would be a graeat idea and as we know Cryptic would need many people to request this to even consider it, i wonder if it could be done through foundry and create a replica of each stf with step by step guidlines, i have never attempted foundry creation so i don't know myself.

I almost hate saying this, but if you can't spend an hour of your time for "end game" content, like "raiding" in other games, then MMO's are not for you. Period. End Game is supposed to take up most of your in game time, once you've maxed out your levels.

At the OP, find a fleet! It's probably been suggested to death, but it will help in the long run. Unlike a lot of other MMO's it is rather easy to get to max level, so a lot of fleets will have the majority be at max level.

I wouldn't mind this if it would take into account the many lost connections that I suffer every day. I usually lose connection to the servers 4-7 times a day, if I'm in a regular mission or the foundry it's no big deal, however if I'm in a stf and i get booted off and then am able to get back in I dont want to have to wait since they might think I'm raging.

thanks for replies, the2pages and H4unt3r maybe if you read the content of the discussion you might have a better idea about the suggestion and making a valid comment, if you do the stf and compete it there is no penelty, Scynch with regards to what you are referring to drop outs shouldn't be even included an any penelty time as that claerly is not your fault and therefore shouldn't suffer any penelty, sorry to hear you drop out so often.
