I played this game when it first came out and am curious if it much better. The community seems to say positive things and there continue to be lots of updates but I don't want it to be a generic mmo with a Star Trek skin

Compared to launch? Goodness, its excellent...when compared to launch. As it stands, it's a decent MMO, but nothing to write home about. There's plenty of content but mind you, this is a MMORPG that you can "beat".
You can full well beat every story mission, every instance, and every Featured Episode content, in a reasonable amount of time. The content at cap is the usual end game MMO rep grind for gear. IMO, it's rather pointless since the game is extremely easy.
If you are into sci fi and MMOs, STO is a solid choice. Just...I hope you're not in it for the ships...

It's not perfect but it's different enough from all the copy/paste mmos out there for me to keep playing.

I just started playing again the other day. I think its much better then launch even though I've always enjoyed it. They have added a lot more features and, I really enjoy playing the Romulan campaign. I would give it a shot again if I was you def worth it!

To say the least since launch they have fixed a lot of things and added a lot more, as well as (attempted to) balance issues being dealt with. The game will have a much (MUCH) faster pace than the original launch.

I also played at launch, but recently came back it's a lot better than it used to be.

It's much better than it was at launch but if you're looking for something more open world, look elsewhere.

Actualy this game has changed alot since the original launch.
I doubt you will be beating it, and Ramadonis has not beaten it, since you cant really beat this one.
And no you dont just have weapons only to grind at high levels.....thats just Ramadonis only being lazy and using the quick PVE que thing, which only lists I think like 20 multi-player missions.
As you unlock your reputation you unlock more missions and areas. Unfortunately this game doesnt really tell you this, you simply have to remember if you find places locked that will tell you what you need to unlock them.
Ie if you simply let the game spoon feed you, yes you will not only not complete everything, you will be like Ramadonis and have no idea you have not done over half the game.
Every patch they put in more things to do(yeah you where wondering why that patch was 100 megs if all they did was fix 4 things).
And the next big patch introduces new Strike force missions(one more for the quick que and 2 more at least not listed on it could be more as i have not tested the new content) and few more story missions.
The thing about this game.....is that pressing J isnt going to list everything and most players who yammer in zone chat have not done everything either, and in fact they will get into an argument with you about things until you literaly show them missions and places.
You will find as you play, many non-player characetrs all over with misisons and things, not accessible until you find them and click on them, the game is very odd in how they do that.
You will also find that even the star trek online wiki isnt complete, as there are things players find or get that, well some of us have no idea where we got them, and the wiki doesnt have the infoprmation either.
So yes...it has changed alot, dont know if you will consider it better or not...you will simply have to try it.
