New to Game, What race should I choose?
I usually play Fantasy type games and usually go with fighter types. There are so many races on here for the Federation, which should I choose?

Also, Which career? I like exploring/dungeon crawling.

Honestly, the Race is moreso what your want your character to look like.

Sure, there are racial abilities for each one, but they honestly don't make that much of a difference to worry that much about it.

As for Classes:

-=Tactical=-
These are extremely squishy on ground, but they can do some stupid amounts of damage - very "rogue" playstyle. They do have some decent defensive buffs and AE attacks, but need help to survive longer engagements.

In space, they're very much about using attack patterns(buffs/debuffs) to maximize their damage

-=Engineering=-
On ground, Engineers can be a lot of fun. They can use a plethora of deployable devices - from mines to turrets to shield 'bubbles' in addition to a lot of support supportive shield heals and mechanical debuffs

In space, they are the most resilient class which can reduce incoming damage substantially and repair themselves at alarming rates. They're a pretty 'selfish' class(most space engineering skills only effect you, personally), but they do have some nice support options at the higher bridge slots.

-=Science=-
On ground, science can be stupidly hard to kill and can probably tank better than any other class, blindfolded. They also have access to some very mean debuffs and stuns, but science generally runs with a lot of heals.

In space, they're something of a jack-of-all-trades supportive class. They've got a lot of abilities that can help other players out and generally just cause a lot of headaches for the opposition. They're a bit of a half-way between a Tactical and Engineer, but with a great deal of group-friendly flexibility. They also have access to a ton of debuffs, although a lot of them are only marginally effective with the current resistances and immunities on everything.

If you like the exploration aspect I'd nudge you towards a Federation character - but to be honest there's nothing stopping you from trying all 3. Play up to level 10 or so in each one and you'll have a rough idea of which one you like best.

As for race, do you want to play humans, elfs (vulcans) dark elfs (romulans) orcs (klingons) lizardman (gorn), gnome/goblin (ferengi), zombie (borg) most all races in fantasy have a corresponding race in Star Trek, makes you wonder where he got the idea for mose races.

Fed has the best science vessels, Klingons have the best tactical vessels, and Romulans engineering. As far as choosing a race, it's not important. Knowing which role you want to play with that race is. I found that out the hard way.

Uh how come Romulans of all things have the best engineering? Their ships have -40 power, not really a good preset for tanking. The best engineering capabilities are found in the Federation. Higher power levels alone decide that one.

I'd tend to agree with Xeno on this one, though I'm a Federation Engineer so I might be slightly biased XD
